Race Details & FAQs

Where is the race?
We will begin and end at the Bath County High School Football Field and run/walk/crawl/hop/skip/jump like crazies through the town of Owingsville. A map of the race course will be available shortly online and will also be included in your race packet the day of pick-up.

When does the race start?
The 5K race begins at 6:00 p.m. Walkers in the 5K are welcome! We ask that racers line up at the start line in order of pace; this would put walkers toward the back.

Do I need to enter my Olympic qualifying time to run this race?
Um, no. If you run that fast we might not be able to get the color on you! This is a really laid back run/walk/crawl/hop/skip/jump with the focus on having a blast with friends and exploring color theory! So relax, don't wear a watch, we won't time you (unless you really want to and we will count out loud while you run).

I'm afraid to run by myself, I have to run with people, is that allowed?

Yes, you big 'ole chicken! You can run/walk/crawl/skip/hop/jump together and "help" each other get really colored up over the 5 color kilometers.

Once I register, do I get anything cool?
Participants will receive an Owingsville Elementary 5k Color Run race shirt, a bag of color and a race number. All of these items will be available in your race packet. Packet pick-up will be available at Owingsville Elementary School during the following times, as well as on race day afternoon:

Friday, September 26th from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

And on race day starting at 4:00 p.m.

Do you donate to a good cause?

You bet! ALL proceeds from the Owingsville Elementary 5K Color Run will go towards the 5th grade students at Owingsville Elementary! This money will help students pay for an overnight field trip to 4-H camp where they get to experience all sorts of great hands-on learning focusing on Social Studies content.

Can children participate?

ABSOLUTELY! After all, this is a fundraiser for our children! Children who are able to walk/run the 5K may participate - just sign them up accordingly, and a guardian over 18 must sign the waiver.

What about jog strollers?
Yep! Kids 5 and under are free!

My dog is my running partner, can he/she come?
No, dogs are color blind and would really miss the point.

Do you use cannons and hoses to hit us with color?
Yes. We're kidding!...Maybe.

Ok, so just to be sure, teenagers with paint ball guns are not involved at any point?
Yes. We are 100% sure.

Will the color ruin clothes or running shoes?
The "color" does mostly wash out after the event. As with anything dirty, the sooner you wash it, the better. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn't mind getting colorful. If you would like to preserve the color in your running shirt after the race, spray it with vinegar and iron it before you wash it.

Does getting bashed with color affect runner vision? Or breathing?
The color bash explosions are basically food grade cornstarch and are 100% natural and SAFE. As with any substance, you want to keep it out of your eyes and our Color Bashers make sure to aim low as you pass by. Some runners opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana for their mouths. Even though we aim low, the wind does carry the color.

How does the color affect the inside of cars?
Most people bring some towels for the inside of their cars, just in case. It's like driving home from the swimming pool in your swimsuit. :)

Are there refunds?
Unfortunately, we cannot issue refunds for the Owingsville Elementary 5K Color Run/Walk. The logistics of setting up and planning the event make it impossible. Just make sure you are good to go before signing up. If for some reason you can't make it to race day, at least come to check in, pick up your race gear and say hi to us!

Where can I park?
You may utilize any of the parking at Owingsville Elementary or Bath County High School.

Will there be medical support staff?
There will be police and medical staff on hand before, during, and after the even. There will also be two waterstops on the course. Hello! Safety first!s!

Are there any post-race activities?
Of course! After the race, come mingle with us on the lawn of the Bath County High School for good food, great music, and to see if you can win any of our door prizes! us!
